General information

The SchooL on Advanced Light-Emitting and Optical Materials (SLALOM) will be held on July 15-16, 2019 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Advanced light-emitting and optical materials, including metamaterials, is a platform for future breakthroughs in telecommunications, quantum computing, displays, photovoltaics, and biophotonics.
The world's best experts will give lectures grouped in 2-day course. The lectures will cover the fundamental and technological aspects, as well as the latest achievements in this field. The additional poster section for young participants will provide unique opportunity for exchanging their experience with the world leading experts.
The School is organized by the Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials of ITMO University with financial support of Russian Science Foundation (grant 19-73-30023).

Visa

A foreign citizen traveling to Russia should have a valid passport (expiry date should be no earlier than 6 months after the date of departure from Russia) and a visa (for almost all foreign visitors, please see the details below).
The deadline for the visa support from the School organizers is May 31, 2019.


The visa application rules are different depending on the citizenship of the applicant:

I. VISA-FREE

For citizens of the following countries: Azerbaijan, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Venezuela, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Cuba, Moldova, Nicaragua, Peru, Serbia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Uruguay, Montenegro, Chile, South Korea no visa is needed.
Nevertheless, we kindly ask you to contact the Organizing Committee to receive a letter from the organizers confirming the purpose of your visit to Russia (you might be asked at the Russian customs).


II.VISA NEEDED

Each participant will receive a visa invitation letter, in printable format, via e-mail if he/she ticks this option in the application form and fills in the the visa invitation letter application form (will be available after the results of acceptance are announced on March 31, 2019).
EU-citizens (except for citizens of the UK and Ireland) has to submit to a Russian Embassy or Consulate a visa invitation letter issued by ITMO University that takes about 5-10 working days to process.
NON-EU citizens (and citizens of the UK and Ireland) has to submit to a Russian Embassy or Consulate a visa invitation letter issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs that takes about 25-30 working days to process.

If you require the original invitation to obtain the visa (e.g. citizens of China and Japan), we will be mailing it via courier post.

Please, apply for a visa as soon as possible after receiving the invitation letter to ensure that the visa is issued timely and also check that you have a valid medical insurance.
